Jill Saur in Colorado

The first time I came across this magnificent aspen forest in Kebler Pass, Colorado, I was with Tom, my husband. It was toward the end of the day and we were both hungry and tired. When I saw these trees and the amount of land to wander through them, I was exhilarated. We explored captured some great photos for subject matter to paint. I was determined that one day I would return to further explore this mesmerizing forest and linger amongst the aspens.

It took two and half years, but I made it back to the exact place in my forest of trees. My sister and I took a trip together and I was able to share these special places with her. I just don't have words to describe the sheer beauty of an aspen forest. The quaking leaves make a music all their own and the eyes on the trees are everywhere, watching...always watching. Actually, they're scars from where the lower branches break off. Aspen trees need light to grow. When the lower branches get less light, they begin to die and break off.

I've always called aspens, "The Giving Trees", because when there's a fire in a forest or mountain side, they're the first ones to start growing. They nourish the soil for other types of trees to take root and grow. As other trees grow up around them, the aspens (being the shorter tree) eventually die off because they don't get enough light. They give their life so that other trees might grow. Hence, the giving trees.

It's been about five years since I was in this spot. Hmmm, perhaps it's time for another visit. If you've never visited an aspen forest, I hope that one day you'll have the chance. You'll be amazed and quite possibly, you'll never be the same. - Jill

Pear Painting by Jill Saur

This is "Imminent Delight" my new acrylic 10"x 8" acrylic palette knife painting. I paint with my knife a good portion of the time. It propels a certain spontaneity and enables a dance between the paint, the knife and me. I'm less in control and more of a spectator. I know how to dance, but I allow the paint and the knife to lead.

Commission A Painting, Atlanta, GA.

I'm Jill Saur, and I love to paint commissions.  Many artists steer away from taking on a project that will ultimately be under the scrutiny of their clients.  However,  I love doing just that!  I've been incredibly blessed to have the nicest clients which motivates me even further to meet their expectations.

I just finished this 30"x40" commissioned piece titled, "Buckhead Vista".  Below, you can see photos of my process and my clients review. - Jill Saur

From my clients who commissioned 30"x40" "Buckhead Vista"

"Jill made our first original painting experience incredibly special. We approached Jill after finding her work online wanting to commission a painting of the view from our Buckhead balcony. Our intent was to capture the beauty of the view to feature in our future homes, and we specifically picked Jill due to her ability to capture the vibrance of natural and man-made landscapes.

Jill worked with us to pick our favorite photo of the balcony view and fine-tuned it to the perfect depiction of a fall day looking north to the mountains. Throughout the process, Jill was extremely communicative and sent our family regular progress updates.  She worked tirelessly to perfect every aspect of the photo and we couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. We are so excited to have this unique piece in our family and will cherish it for years to come!" Thank you for everything, Jill! Best, Cara - Buckhead, GA.

I chose hues from my personal color charts that matched up with the enhanced colors in the photo from Cara's balcony.

I ended up mixing paint on six palette's for this project, my new record.

Stratocumulus clouds are very difficult to paint.  I painted a work-up sky on a smaller canvas, working out my strategy for the sky and then I began the larger piece.

After getting further along with the sky, I painted a yellow underpainting for the trees and foliage. This way, they would end up with a beautiful glow.

This next photo shows the beginnings of the foliage.

The street scenes were very complicated.  Not wanting to settle for anything less than spectacular, I painted them several times to get the perspective and size correct.  Below, you can see the finished result.

Cara's husband, Aaron, picked up the painting so that he could take it to the framer.  With his permission, I'm sharing this photo.  Happy client, happy artist!

This is my new commissioned abstract 24"x 30" acrylic painting titled, "Seaside Blues."  This vibrant abstract piece was commissioned by a client in New York who was looking for a focal point piece for his new apartment.  Blue is his favorite color and I was happy to oblige!

I had a lot of fun painting this one.  There's something about painting abstracts that opens up my spirit to soar to new heights, imagining new ideas and artistic concepts.

Let's talk if you're interested in having me paint an abstract for your home, office, or your zoom meetings.  It's awesome to have an interesting piece of artwork hanging behind you when you're in a zoom meeting. You can reach me through my contact page. - Jill Saur  CLICK HERE

My 36"x36" abstract oil painting titled, "Square Dance", was quickly snatched up by a collector shortly after I painted it a number of years ago.

The theme of this painting is, "Opposites Attract".  I painted complimentary colors next to each other to create an evocative synergy.  My patron tells me that everyone who sees this painting just loves it.  That makes me smile.

Are you using zoom or google meets to conduct virtual business meetings? Instead of using a virtual background, a blank wall, or a potted plant behind you, why not consider original art to show off your individuality?  I'm always fascinated when I see original artwork hanging behind the presenter on their computer.  I find the person who's speaking to be more interesting.

If you're looking for a dynamic expressive abstract painting, or one that is more subdued,  please consider commissioning me to paint one for you.  I love working with clients and coming up with a dynamic painting just for them!  And, your satisfaction is guaranteed!

                                              BUY ORIGINAL ART

You walk into a gallery or browse through an artist's website, and all of a sudden, amidst the host of paintings, your attention is turned to just one.  Then, in the quietness of your observation, this image that has no literal voice, begins to speak to you, uplift your spirit, move your heart and make you smile.

The number one reason to buy an original work of art is because of how much you love it, and how it makes you feel.  People who buy original art have a lot to smile about!

A great painting inspirits the right hemisphere of our brains, stimulating ideas, and ideas are the root of creativity.  If you surround yourself with art that inspires, you will be inspired!

Studies in work environments have shown that the productivity of an employee is elevated by as much as 25% when they are exposed to original art in their everyday jobs. This doesn’t surprise me.  Art that makes us feel good can uplift our moods and give us a greater sense of well-being.  My patrons tell me that my art inspires them and the more they look at my work, the more they see.  The greatest two compliments I get are that my paintings exude ‘joy’ and that they're  displayed in a prominent place.

When you buy an original painting from me, you will have a one-of-a-kind creation that no one else in the  world has. With the longevity of the premium quality acrylic and oil paints I use, your painting will become a family heirloom and be able to be passed down to subsequent generations.

Original art also has aesthetic value.  It can either blend in with the natural décor of a room, or as many collectors prefer, it can be the focal point.  Because my art is vibrant,  full of life, and luminous, most of my clients purchase my art to become the focal point of their room.

When you buy a painting from me, you can continue to follow my work through my website and  blog.  For the past thirty years, I have a solid record of selling to collectors.  Read what my happy patrons have to say about collecting my work.  PATRONS COMMENTS

This magnificent southern live oak down at the Chattahoochee River, graced all who passed by for many years.  During its latter years, I've had the privilege of capturing its beauty on canvas.  Several years ago, the parks department had this aging tree cut down.  I used to sit on the bench underneath its canopy and watch the river swiftly flow by.  I miss this graceful oak.  I'm so glad I have the photos to refer to whenever I feel the urge to paint this poignant memory.

This 30"x40" acrylic painting on canvas is titled, "The Hastening Tree".  The original is available to purchase.  I'm also offering it in a limited edition giclee.  Please CLICK HERE  to see the original.

“A tree against the sky possesses the same interest, the same character, the same expression as the figure of a human. – George Rouault”. (French painter)

It's no secret that I love to paint trees!  George Rouault's quote deeply resonates with me.

I rendered my 38”x48” acrylic aspen tree painting with brush and palette knife.  I closed my eyes and wandered through one of my trips to Colorado, where the azure blue sky against the dancing white aspen trees ignite endless waves of inspiration.  The title of this painting is, “Resilient Beauty”.  It hangs in the home of one of my patrons.

This is my 12"x12" acrylic palette knife painting on canvas.  It's titled, "Blue Flowers".

When I work with my palette knife, I use an impasto style that I developed over fifteen years ago. The richly textured paint seemingly brings my trees and flowers to life.
My patrons tell me they feel like they can walk into one of my landscapes or reach out and pluck a petal from one of my flower paintings.  That makes me smile!

Please remember that I love to pain commissions for either corporate art or art for your home!  Consider an original work of art for your zoom meetings!
