36"x36 Commissioned Painting: "Symphonic Splendor"

The following comments are from the patron who commissioned, "Symphonic   Splendor":
"As first time art commissioners, we were a bit nervous initially to approach an artist and start the process. However, after the first  conversation with Jill, we immediately felt at ease. She let us know that she would be open to color choices and input from us throughout the whole process, and she meant it.  We had several meetings and communications with Jill to discuss the project overall, choose colors, review the sketches, and of course view the final product. There was never a point in the process where we didn’t know what was going to happen next. In the end, we couldn’t be happier with the piece.  She took our vague descriptions and varied color palette and turned it into a beautiful work of art. We can’t wait to hang it as the centerpiece in our brand new home!".    Mandy and Adam C. -  Atlanta, GA
Mandy found me through the internet and gave me a call.  I invited Mandy and Adam to my studio to see my work in person and to discuss their vision for a commission.  After they decided to move forward, Mandy emailed me a color chart reflecting her desired colors.

I worked up a color chart with my acrylic paints and invited Mandy to my studio to see them in person.  Mandy brought me a pottery piece with the colors she wanted in the painting.

I submitted three drawings to them via email and they chose this one.

Since this was to be such an important design piece for their home, I painted a preliminary 18”x18” painting for Mandy and Adam to preview.  I wanted to be sure that my artistic vision was in line with what they desired.  Both Mandy and Adam came to my studio to see it.  They absolutely loved it and I was able to start the final 36”x36” painting.

When I completed the painting, both Adam and Mandy returned to my studio to give the final approval.  I was delighted.  They loved it!

Commissioned Painting: "Absolute Joy" 36"x36"

“We began to work with Jill on a commission to put in the mountain house that we are building, never dreaming that we would end up with a painting that invokes such Absolute Joy!  We talked with Jill several times to convey what we feel when we visit the property we purchased, and  Patron comment:she understood what we wanted very early in the process. Her ability to translate our words into emotion was unfathomable and resulted in a masterpiece that we will enjoy for many years.  As we picked up the painting, I swear I saw a tear as she reluctantly gave up a piece of her heart.” Ken Manford & Jeffrey Roach - Decatur GA / Hayesville NC
Ken and Jeffrey have been clients of mine since Ken walked into my gallery five years ago and purchased a 36”x36” original aspen tree painting as a gift for Jeffrey.  Last year, they commissioned a second aspen tree painting for their new home in Decatur.  In December, Ken emailed me about a vacation home they were building on top of a mountain with spectacular views.  They wanted to commission me to paint something that would be the focal point inside their home.  I sent them a photo that my sister took in the nearby mountains of a river below.  Since they had such wonderful views on top of the mountain, I thought they might want a painting to remind them of the beauty below.  They loved the idea and photo, and told me to proceed.  I feel honored they have such trust in me to send a check without ever speaking to me on the phone.  This was all done through email correspondence.

I sent Ken and Jeffrey my drawing on the canvas to show my progress.  Above the drawing is a smaller canvas I painted to work out my colors.  I don't always do this, but on certain occasions, I will.

I sent this to my client to show him the beginning of his painting.

This is a photo I sent to show the hues in the water and the background.

Commissioned Painting: "Canton Street" 36"x36"

"My husband and I lived in East Cobb for nearly two years, and fell in love with Roswell.  When we recently moved to Denver, Colorado, we wanted to take a piece of Roswell with us to our new home as we knew we'd miss Roswell dearly.  Once arriving in Denver, we found the perfect spot over the fireplace to place a lasting memento of our favorite spot in the heart of Roswell. Knowing of Jill's work, we commissioned her to paint a picturesque part of Roswell, and we are so glad we found her and asked her to paint this lasting memory for us!  Jill brought Canton Street to life in masterful detail and elegant style - and allowed for our input on the commission every step of the way.  While we were managing much of the process from afar in Denver - via email and phone calls - Jill put together a fantastic painting that captured everything we were looking for.  What's more is that Jill gave us insights into her work process every step of the way - she truly collaborated with us and valued our input.  The experience of working with her was excellent.  From her taking the initial photo of the Canton Street spot we had identified, throughout the prototyping, and to the finished product, we couldn't have been happier with how things went.  Upon receiving our painting in Denver (and the shipping process was handled with true TLC), we fell in love with the painting of the little place we enjoyed so much.  Thanks to Jill for an outstanding piece of artwork that brought our memorable place to life, along with an exceptional working process and a wonderful overall experience in commissioning our Roswell masterpiece.  We are grateful to Jill for painting something we'll cherish forever".  - Lesley and Josh Disbrow - Denver, Colorado

I started this commission by taking numerous photos of Historic Canton Street.  My clients loved this shot of their favorite restaurant.

They wanted my colorful spin incorporated into my painting.  So, I manipulated the photo I took and sent them different options to choose from.  They had a specific color palette that they wanted and this was a perfect fit for what they wanted.

Commissioned Painting:  "The Bennett Family Farm"

”One afternoon I had the idea to commission a painting of our one hundred year old family farmhouse.  As anyone else would do in 2015, I googled, "commission painting Atlanta". Jill's website was one of the first to show up. Immediately, I was impressed with the talent on her website and the step-by- step process she outlines for commissioned work. I emailed and called Jill and quickly we began collaborating with pictures and emails. Jill truly stays with her commitment to involve the client in the decision process as portrayed on her website. It rapidly becomes clear that Jill paints from the passion in her heart, which creates her unique talent.  Upon completion, you will start to photograph all sorts of ideas that you wish to commission with Jill in the future.  An addiction is created!  I am very honored to have “The Bennett Family Farmhouse” from Jill Saur in my home. My new piece of art will be the talk of Atlanta in 2015.  Thank you Jill for a wonderful first commissioned experience." – Lori B. – Atlanta, GA.

Lori provided  me with a photograph of her family’s one hundred year old farm.  I cropped the image to fit onto an 18”x24” canvas size that Lori wanted.  She approved.

(Below) My finished piece that Lori loved.

Original Tree Painitings - Atlanta, GA.

Those who know me, know that I’m passionate about painting trees. I wonder if I caught the bug when I was just a little girl watching my mother breath life into her trees as she painted them.  Either way, I began my love affair with painting trees over thirty years ago.

I have several favorite trees along different sections of the Chattahoochee River.  Recently, I took a hike along this beautiful river in search of one of my favorite trees.  When I finally arrived at my destination, the clouds overtook the sun, and all of the shadows that I love to photograph had vanished.  So, I returned the next day, walked down the huge hill and hiked back to the same place.  With great joy, I found the sun at just the right place and the shadows were perfect!  This photo is from that day, but not of my favorite tree.  I will share that after my painting is completed.

If you haven't figured it yet, the point of this post is PASSION and
DETERMINATION.  Passion without determination is like having a great car with no gas in it.  I would have gone down to that river every day if need be just to get the shot that I was looking for.

When you find what you are passionate about, stay with it, cultivate it, watch it grow, and watch yourself grow with it!

Alen Air Purifiers for Art Studios

Air Purifiers for Art Studios

There are six different Alen Air Purifier models to choose from so that you can walk into your studio, take a deep breath, and smile.  After six and a half years of ownership, I'm still smiling!

Oil paints and varnishes create VOC's (volatile organic compounds).  Charcoal and pastels create dust, and pastel dust, especially the cadmiums, are toxic. When all of these organic compounds evaporate or fly into the air, we breathe them into our lungs and they enter our bloodstream.  These toxins can seriously affect our health.

The easiest and healthiest solution for any studio artist is to use a portable, HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter.  I own two Alen air purifiers.  I use the Alen BreatheSmart HEPA air purifier (with a silver filter) in my art studio (see below), and the Alen BreatheSmart Fit50 (with a silver filter) in my bedroom.  When measuring your space, you need to include the height of your ceilings.  My studio ground space is 438 sq. ft. and my ceilings are vaulted, giving me a total of 800 sq. ft.  Alen will help you determine the size air purifier you need. This is a great company located in Texas.

Over the years, the fumes from the oil paint have given me headaches.  As a result, I've primarily painted in acrylics.  Now that I'm using my Alen BreatheSmart air purifier in my studio, I can paint with oils again.  I posted a link below to the Alen website.  I think they're the best in the industry.  I've been running my studio and bedroom purifier 365 days a year for the past six years without a problem.

Jill Saur Fine Art Studio

The Alen Corporation offers FREE SHIPPING and a 60-day LOVE IT OR RETURN IT period when you purchase your air purifier directly from them.  Best of all, they stand 100% behind their products with a FOREVER GUARANTEE (the only lifetime warranty in the industry). The prices on all their units are the same on Amazon, but Amazon only offers a thirty day trial period.  I'm so glad I ordered my units directly from Alen because my sales associate, Melissa, helped me determine what type of unit filter I needed for my art studio.

Alen offers six different models to choose from at different price points that cover rooms starting at 500 square feet and go all the way up to 1,100 square feet.  I consider Alen to be the best air filtration company and they actually answer the phone! They have the most thorough website in their industry and they have knowledgeable and friendly employees. Give Alen a call and get started on your road to breathing clean fresh air while working in your studio. You'll be glad you did.  Happy and healthy painting! - Jill Saur

Corporate Art, Atlanta, GA.

A great painting sparks the right hemisphere of our brains, stimulating ideas, and ideas are the root of creativity.  If you surround yourself with art that inspires you, your life will be greatly enriched!

Studies in work environments have shown that the productivity of an employee is elevated by as much as 25% when they are exposed to original art in their everyday jobs. This doesn’t surprise me.  Art that makes us feel good can uplift our moods and give us a greater sense of well-being.  Whether in a home or business, I'm honored that my paintings are hung in a prominent place for all to enjoy.

When a corporate office is enhanced with original art, the environment is elevated to a dynamic level that will incentivize both employees and clients!
On my website, you'll see some of my commissioned pieces and read what my clients have to say about working with me.  Let’s see what I can do to help provide you with just the right artwork for your corporate offices.  Thanks! - Jill Saur - Jill Saur Fine Art, LLC

Aspen Painting

"If you reveal your secrets to the wind, you should not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees."
- Khalil Gibran

My 8"10".5" oil palette knife and brush painting, "Relinquished", has richly textured trees, revealing their "bone structure" against the value tones of winter. The title suggests the place in life where we relinquish ourselves and open up our hearts and minds to fresh inspiration and new possibilities.

I love aspens in winter. Their beautiful white trunks and dark branches mingle with the dark shadows cast upon the white snow, creating a profound beauty that is best experienced in silence.

DO OPPOSITES REALLY ATTRACT?  YOU BET THEY DO!!!!

My 36"x36" abstract oil painting titled, "Square Dance", was quickly snatched up by a collector shortly after I painted it a number of years ago.

The theme of this painting is, "Opposites Attract".  I applied complimentary colors next to each other to create an evocative synergy.  My patron tells me that everyone who sees this painting wants it.  That makes me smile.

If you're looking for a dynamic expressive abstract painting (or one with soft colors), please consider commissioning me to paint one for you.  I love working with clients and coming up with a dynamic painting just for them!  And, your satisfaction is guaranteed!

Van Gogh on Learning To Draw

Van Gogh's Letter To Theo: Learning To Draw
"It’s more or less the same with drawing as with writing. When one learns to write as a child, one has the feeling that one will never discover how to do it, and it seems to be a miracle when one sees the schoolmaster write so quickly. Nevertheless, in time one grasps it. And I really believe that one must learn to draw in such a way that it’s as easy as writing something down, and that one must master proportion and learn to see in such a way that one can reproduce at will whatever one sees on a larger or smaller scale." - Van Gogh
Drawing never came naturally to me, it was grueling. It wasn't until I learned proportioning that I understood how to do it. With practice, I could finally say that I loved to draw. It's a wonderful way to express feelings. If you've ever wanted to learn, it's never too late. And, if I can learn, anyone can! - Jill Saur
