This is one of my favorite art quotes by French Author, and winner of the Nobel Prize in literature in 1947, Andre Gide.

Personally, my artwork is a waltz that I engage in with brush paint and Spirit, a collaboration between myself and God.  Undoubtedly, the less I do, the better! - Jill Saur   www.JillSaurFineArt.com.

Our path is set before us.  It's up to us to move forward though this life to places that are often unknown.   Our solace in this journey is that our Creator walks with us, we do not walk alone.

So, I went for a walk today down at the Chattahoochee River.  This magnificent southern live oak tree (that you see here in my painting) hangs over the river and graces all who pass by.  Over the years, I've had the privilege of rendering my impression of this tree on canvas.

This 30"x40" acrylic painting on canvas is titled, "The Hastening Tree".  The original hangs in my personal collection, but it is available to purchase in a limited edition giclee.  To contact me, please CLICK HERE.  To see more of my available work, to inquire about Atlanta Corporate Art, please CLICK HERE.

Vincent Van Gogh Quote

Vincent Van Gogh quote
Vincent Van Gogh Quote by Jill Saur
Although Vincent Van Gogh was a man of suffering, he was a man who loved much.  From reading his letters, it's evident that he deeply loved God, his family, and his friends.  According to his own words, love was the source of his true strength.

My artwork is deeply inspired by the fortitude and perseverance of this artistic genius.

I love seeing the moment when someone is drawn to one particular painting of mine and they just know that it was meant for them.  It's as if I've whispered a secret to the wind and the wind carries my secret to the perfect keeper.

My 30"x40" tulip acrylic palette knife painting, "Reaching For The Sun", hangs in the home of a wonderful patron.  Thank you for collecting a piece of my heart! - Jill Saur

Refugee Cross

©1990-2014 Refugee Cross by Jill Saur, all rights reserved
I stood motionless on Little Cayman Island as I gazed at the stained canvas shelter attached to the tattered cross.  We heard the night before that the police had arrested a group of six men who had fled Cuba on a tiny handmade boat.  Silence swept over the room when it was announced that those men would be flown back to Cuba to be executed or imprisoned for life.

The seas had been particularly rough that week.  None of us knew how it would be possible to brave the turbulent rough waters in a tiny vessel.  We rode our bikes down the road to the beach where this little boat had been impounded.

Six men?  There was barely room for three!  We heard that while three or four were crowded into the boat, two others clung to the outer tubes in the shark-infested waters.

The sight was stunning.  A myriad of thoughts raced through my mind and then there was this cross.  Out of all the photos that I took, this one was the most powerful.  This is what the men would have seen as they were clinging to the sides of their boat, as they were clinging to their desperation to be free.

Ten years have passed since I stood on that beach.  But, in my mind, it was only a moment ago. – Jill Saur  WEBSITE

"I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? - Lewis Carroll

On this wintry day, I thought I'd share my 30"x40" acrylic aspen tree painting, "Twilight".  There's something so beautiful about standing in the woods on a snowy day.  It's a great time to be still and experience the beauty of pure solitude.

One of the greatest compliments that I receive from my patrons, is that they feel as though they can walk right into my paintings.  I don't always know who purchases my work (if it's sold through a gallery) but when I do, it's so wonderfully rewarding to get such nice feedback!

Aspen Tree Painting And Psalm 23

Psalm 23
©1990-2014 Aspen Tree Painting by Jill Saur, all rights reserved

I've lived with a chronic, incurable disease, for over thirty years.  Still, I thrive!  A long time ago, I learned the difference between joy and happiness.  To some, happiness depends on things coming together externally.  To me, joy is something that develops on the inside and doesn't depend on one single external speck of dust.

My acrylic painting, "Abundant Journey", was inspired by the still waters and the path of righteousness that King David spoke about in one of the most well known Psalms of all time, Psalm 23.  I've memorized this Psalm so that I can take it with me everywhere I go.  It inspires and sustains me as I walk through this journey called, "Life".

*"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever. "* Psalm 23:1-4

May your journey be abundant and full! - Jill Saur  www.JillSaur.com

Vincent Van Gogh

Van Gogh
Vincent Van Gogh Self Portrait

Vincent Van Gogh was a man who possessed deep convictions, tremendous fortitude, and deep passionate bonds with those he loved.

When his Uncle died, he wrote a letter to his brother, Theo.  In it, he said, "My Dear Theo, This morning I heard from Pa and from you the news of Uncle Jan's death.  Such things make us say, "O Lord, join us intimately to one another and let our love for Thee make that bond ever stronger.  And, Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man."  That last sentence was taken from Ecclesiastes 12:13.

Van Gogh was well versed in the old and new testament, holding a deep faith and and belief in God.  Yet still, in all his frailties, Van Gogh was still a man with many weaknesses, showing us that believers are not perfect but perfectly forgiven!  - Jill Saur  www.JillSaur.com

For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver." - Martin Luther

Shimmering aspen leaves and mossy carpeted forest floors entice, entreat, and elevate the spirits of anyone who has ever experienced such beauty.

My 36"x36" acrylic aspen tree painting is titled, "Harmonious Encore".  When you've spent one fabulous day in the woods with these beautiful trees, most assuredly, you'll want an encore!  This painting is available to purchase by contacting me.  CLICK HERE  To see more of my work, please visit my website.  CLICK HERE

The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web." - Pablo Picasso

I love playing with complimentary colors in my paintings.  After all, they bring out the best in each other!  My 10"x10" acrylic painting, "Red Sky" is a vivid, eye-catching piece that draws your imagination to the exciting possibilities in life.

Van Gogh Village Street In Auvers Gesture by Atlanta Artist, Jill Saur

Jill Saur Gesture of Van Gogh Auvers
Van Gogh Village Street In Auvers,  May 1890

Gesture Study of Van Gogh
Jill Saur Gesture of Van Gogh Village Street In Auvers, Februay 2014
So, I'm re-reading Van Gogh's letters to Theo and gaining more insight into my favorite artist's life.  His work deeply moves me and I'm pretty sure he is not only one of the most well-known artists, but probably one of the most misunderstood artists.

In my opinion, Van Gogh studied and mastered color theory like few other artists ever have, or possibly ever will.  His use of complimentary colors and their tones to convey his deepest thoughts and feelings, and his moving brushstrokes, were nothing short of genius.

Van Gogh's painting, "Village Street in Auvers" is the painting above.  Last night I took a 14"x17" newsprint pad and loosely gestured the scene with a soft willow stick.  My intention was to gesture my impression of his painting and not make an exact copy.  I gestured another drawing this morning and I'll do it one more time before putting the final gesture drawing on my canvas.

It's highly probable that I'll render my interpretation of this painting with a palette knife rather than a brush.  Either way, I'm excited to see what the outcome will be!

World Cancer Day 2014

©1990-2014 Floral Painting by Jill Saur, all rights reserved

Today is World Cancer Day.  Here are a few flowers, in loving memory of my mother, who passed from this world ten years ago.  Like me, she was an artist.  But, in the end, she became a great warrior who fought the battle against cancer.  Her last words on this earth, "Love is the answer to the problem".

She would have loved this palette knife painting.  I've dedicated it to her.  It's titled, "Absolute Love".

What is your defining moment?  I'll never forget mine.  I was eighteen years old.  God reached down, literally saved my soul and brought me His peace and saved me from a life and eternity without Him.  "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever." - Psalm 23:6

My new 11"x14" acrylic palette knife painting is titled, "Defining Moment".  It represents our seemingly abstract life and the path we must take to find our own deliverance.  To inquire about purchasing this work, EMAIL ME.  To see more of my available work, visit my WEBSITE.

Dance, dance, wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the dance, said he
And I lead you all, wherever you may be
And I lead you all in the dance, said he. - Syndey Carter

My 20"x16" acrylic painting, "Paso Doble", reflects the dance of life.  Sometimes the dance is soft and melodic, while at others times, the dance is so dramatic that it requires the fortitude and strength of a matador.
