“A tree against the sky possesses the same interest, the same character, the same expression as the figure of a human. – George Rouault”. (French painter)

It's no secret that I love to paint trees!

I painted my 38”x48” acrylic aspen tree painting with brushes and a palette knife.  I closed my eyes and wandered through one of my trips to Colorado, where the azure blue sky against the dancing white aspen trees ignite endless waves of inspiration.  The title of this painting is, “Resilient Beauty”.  It hangs in the home of one of my patrons.

To see my available aspen paintings, please visit my website where you'll see I also paint commissions.  Be sure to read my patrons comments. I have a solid record of working with clients for the past twenty-nine years!  www.JillSaurFineArt.com

                                              BUY ORIGINAL ART

You walk into a gallery or browse through an artist's website, and all of a sudden, amidst the host of paintings, your attention is turned to just one.  Then, in the quietness of your observation, this image that has no literal voice, begins to speak to you, uplift your spirit, move your heart and make you smile.
The number one reason to buy an original work of art is because of how much you love it, and how it makes you feel.  People who buy original art have a lot to smile about!
A great painting inspirits the right hemisphere of our brains, stimulating ideas, and ideas are the root of creativity.  If you surround yourself with art that inspires, you will be inspired!
Studies in work environments have shown that the productivity of an employee is elevated by as much as 25% when they are exposed to original art in their everyday jobs. This doesn’t surprise me.  Art that makes us feel good can uplift our moods and give us a greater sense of well-being.  My patrons tell me that my art inspires them and the more they look at my work, the more they see.  The greatest two compliments I get are that my paintings exude ‘joy’ and that they're  displayed in a prominent place.
When you buy an original painting from me, your painting will become a family heirloom and be able to be passed down to subsequent generations.
Original art also has aesthetic value.  It can either blend in with the natural décor of a room, or as many collectors prefer, it can stand out from everything else and be the focal point.  Because my art is vibrant,  full of life, and luminous,  most of my clients purchase my art to become the focal point of their room.

I just varnished this 8"x10" oil palette knife painting. I've titled it, "Aspen Encounter". This is a field in Snowmass at my sisters ranch in Colorado. Beyond those trees is a wonderful path where you can get lost in the aspens and see bear claw marks in the trees. I love it there.

I invite you to become a collector.  You’ll be happy to know that I take meticulous care of my clients, but you’ll never forget how my paintings make you feel!

Original Art and Painting Commissions in Atlanta, GA.

Original Painting by Jill Saur

I love Van Gogh.  People often associate Van Gogh with his tumultuous life and don't realize he was a master artist, draftsman, and expert on color.  Although he painted quickly, he applied his artistic knowledge with every inspired brushstroke.  In some way I believe that my artwork is inspired by Van Gogh.

I've titled my painting above, "Joyful Encounter." I painted this textured palette knife painting using brilliant azure blues, effusive reds, and warm golds.  Although I rendered it in a spontaneous fashion, I applied my knowledge of color theory and the elements and principles and design.

"Joyful Encounter" and many other paintings of mine are available to purchase on my new and easy to navigate, e-commerce website.  If you're looking for a particular sized painting, why not consider commissioning me to paint an original just for you?  I love to paint commissions. Thanks, Jill Saur

Painting Classes in Roswell, GA.

Martin Glaser, a legendary New York graphic designer, famous for creating the ‘I Love New York’ logo, recently spoke about something that’s dear to my heart.  Martin said, “If you can sustain your interest in what you’re doing, you’re an extremely fortunate person.  What you see very frequently in people’s professional lives, and perhaps in their emotional life as well, is that they lose interest in the third act.  You sort of get tired, and indifferent, and sometimes, defensive and you kind of lose your capacity for astonishment, and that’s a great loss, because the world is a very astonishing place.”

Most of my clients lead very busy lives, are professional businessmen and women, own businesses and some are taking care of large families.  I also stay very busy with my classes, painting, and the business side of what I do.  It takes determination to stop and re-charge the creative side, but it's vitally important.

I’m in the third act of my life and  I still find wonder in observing nature, seeing the cloud formations before a storm, and getting up early to watch the sunrise over the misty waters of the Chattahoochee River.

I agree with Martin Glaser, the world is a very astonishing place and I hope you're able to take the necessary time to be utterly astonished too!

If your interested in learning to draw or paint, I teach several classes a week in my studio in Roswell, GA.

Van Gogh Vase Flowers
Van Gogh Vase With Flowers Painting

Van Gogh"s Use Of Complimentary Colors by Jill Saur

This oil on canvas by Van Gogh is rendered with stunning complementary colors (colors that are opposites on the color wheel).  In this case, the opposites are blue and orange, purple and yellow, and red and green.  In color theory, this combination of colors is known as a six tone chord (hexagon).

Van Gogh was a master of color, drawing, and composition.  He knew how to use just the right amount of a colors compliment to enhance the original hue.

I've always been intrigued by color and have experimented with it. The secret of making beautiful hues began opening up to me after spending  many long hours and months studying and making color charts and color wheels.  Learning the difference between warm blues and cool blues, warm reds and cool reds, warm yellows and cool yellows, made all the difference in the world!

I've simplified the process of learning and I teach my students how to make their own color wheel.  I love to see when the light goes on and they understand what it's all about.  Realizing how to mix color without having it turn to mud, knowing how to tone down a color without using black, and knowing how to choose the right colors for a painting, is a game changer!  - Jill Saur - Jill Saur Fine Art

Connecting With Your Subject Matter in Art

 Connecting With Your Subject Matter

Painting By Andrew Wyeth – American Master Artist  (1917-2009)

Written by Jill Saur

The best way to connect with others through your art, is if you're connected to what you're expressing.

Andrew Wyeth was the quintessential example of a true American artistic genius. He was my favorite American Artist.  Andrew’s disciplined artistic journey began as a young boy. His respect for the human spirit never wavered.  Andrew Wyeth once said, I search for the realness, the real feeling of a subject, all the texture around it, I always want to see the third dimension of something.  I want to come alive with the object.” Wyeth's desire was to capture a moment, not a frozen moment, but a fleeting moment.

Obviously, the best way to capture a fleeting moment is to paint en plein air (the act of painting outdoors with the artist's subject in full view), setting up a still-life, or working with a live model.  For the sake of convenience, many artists work from a photograph.

When you're painting from a photograph, it's important to know the difference between a frozen moment and a fleeting moment. It's the fleeting moment that exudes feeling!  As an artist, if you're going to paint from a photo, try to paint from your own photo.  If you were compelled to pick up your camera, it's because something grabbed you that you wanted to remember and share with others.  If you take a photo of a sunrise over the ocean, you're going to remember the smell of the saltwater and the warmth of the sun on your face.  The feelings you experience in those fleeting moments are going to translate into your work as long as you stay connected to those feelings.

On rare occasions, if I don't have a photo of something I want to paint, I use a copyright free image.  I only do that if I'm deeply connected with the subject matter and I'm not able to take the photo myself.   People can spot a phony a mile away and don't be mistaken, people can tell the difference between a painting that's wrought with feeling and a painting that's manufactured.  If I'm presenting my feelings to the world through my art, I better have feelings and they better be translatable through every stroke and nuance of color.

Glowing with the light of the moon, these two 36"x 48" aspen tree paintings, "Circle of Quiet One" and "Circle of Quiet Two" were purchased by one of my collector's.

My oversized paintings are usually purchased to be the focal point of a big room.  It's also interesting to note that a larger work of art can actually make a smaller room appear to be much bigger than it actually is.

My artwork hangs in both homes and corporations.  Please visit my website to see what my patrons have to say about purchasing my art and also read what they say about commissioning their own original with me.   CLICK HERE
