Merry Christmas To My Patrons

  MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Watercolor Painting By Jill Saur

To my patrons who celebrate Christmas, I wish you a wonderful Christmas! Growing up, I was only taken to church on Easter. It wasn't until I was eighteen, that I turned to God. I've always been amazed that the Old Testament has over 360 prophecies of Jesus birth, life, and resurrection. My favorite prophecy regarding his birth is, "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel." (Isaiah 7:14)   God is very deep and so is His word. Whenever I study the Old Testament, it's like going on a treasure hunt!

I want to thank you for making this year and previous years, a wonderful experience for me as an artist. Thank you for your patronage!

My Very Best,

Jill Saur www.JillSaur.com

Glowing with the light of the moon, these two 36"x48" aspen tree paintings, "Circle of Quiet One" and "Circle of Quiet Two" were purchased by one of my collector's.

My over-sized paintings are usually purchased to be the focal point of a big room.  It's also interesting to note that a larger work of art can actually make a smaller room appear to be much bigger than it is.

My artwork hangs in both homes and corporations.  Please visit my website to see what my patrons have to say about purchasing my art and also read what they say about commissioning their own original with me.   CLICK HERE

Vincent Van Gogh's Trees

Vincent Van Gogh Pollard Birches
Vincent Van Gogh Trees "Pollard Birches" 1884

"I can think of no other European painter whose work expresses such a stripped respect for everyday things without elevating them, in some way, without referring to salvation by way of an ideal which the things embody or serve." - John Berger on Vincent Van Gogh

It's no secret that Vincent Van Gogh is number one on my list of favorite artists.  He was passionate, disciplined, incredibly smart, innovative, and someone who loved deeply.  Can you just get lost in his trees?  I can.  In the above drawing, the trees take center stage, but it's not long before you notice the image of people working in the fields.  I love this piece.  Please enjoy another quote below by John Berger.  He writes of Van Gogh's act of drawing in beautifully descriptive terms.

"What do we see? Thyme, other shrubs, limestone rocks, olive trees on a hillside, in the distance a plain, in the sky birds. He dips the pen into brown ink, watches, and marks the paper. The gestures come from his hand, his wrist, arm, shoulder, perhaps even the muscles in his neck, yet the strokes he makes on the paper are following currents of energy which are not physically his and which only become visible when he draws them. Currents of energy? The energy of a tree’s growth, of a plant’s search for light, of a branch’s need for accommodation with its neighboring branches, of the roots of thistles and shrubs, of the weight of rocks lodged on a slope, of the sunlight, of the attraction of the shade for whatever is alive and suffers from the heat, of the mistral from the north which has fashioned the rock strata. My list is arbitrary; what is not arbitrary is the pattern his strokes make on the paper. The pattern is like a fingerprint. Whose?" - John Berger on Vincent Van Gogh

This past summer I had the opportunity to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art on three different days.  I spent quite a bit of time at the Van Gogh exhibit.  I was mesmerized by his brushstrokes and use of color.  If you have any opportunity to visit any museum that houses works by Van Gogh, please don't miss the opportunity! - Jill Saur  www.JillSaur.com

Kebler Pass Colorado

Two years ago, my husband and I were in this very forest on Kebler Pass in Colorado. When we left, I filed in my mind that I wanted to return to this very place, one of my favorite spots on this earth. Two years later, two flights and a four hour car drive with my sister, Gina, I returned to that very spot. Lying on the ground with my camera, photographing the incredible cyan sky behind the brilliant aspen leaves, I couldn't have been any more thankful!

A short distance from Kebler Pass, Colorado, is Ohio Pass.  My sister and I ventured up the steep narrow road to find a treasure of aspen trees with their gold leaves quaking in the gentle breeze.  Truly, Kebler Pass and Ohio Pass are two very special places that may be one of the best kept secrets in Colorado.

It will be interesting to see the paintings that emerge from this very special trip.  As in years past, I've come home with tremendous photographs and a vast memory of blessed days and starry starry nights.

                                              BUY ORIGINAL ART

You walk into a gallery or browse through an artist's website, and all of a sudden, amidst the host of paintings, your attention is turned to just one.  Then, in the quietness of your observation, this image that has no literal voice, begins to speak to you, uplift your spirit, move your heart and make you smile.
The number one reason to buy an original work of art is because of how much you love it, and how it makes you feel.  People who buy original art have a lot to smile about!
A great painting inspirits the right hemisphere of our brains, stimulating ideas, and ideas are the root of creativity.  If you surround yourself with art that inspires, you will be inspired!
Studies in work environments have shown that the productivity of an employee is elevated by as much as 25% when they are exposed to original art in their everyday jobs. This doesn’t surprise me.  Art that makes us feel good can uplift our moods and give us a greater sense of well-being.  My patrons tell me that my art inspires them and the more they look at my work, the more they see.  The greatest two compliments I get are that my paintings exude ‘joy’ and that they're  displayed in a prominent place.
When you buy an original painting from me, your painting will become a family heirloom and be able to be passed down to subsequent generations.
Original art also has aesthetic value.  It can either blend in with the natural décor of a room, or as many collectors prefer, it can stand out from everything else and be the focal point.  Because my art is vibrant,  full of life, and luminous,  most of my clients purchase my art to become the focal point of their room.
When you buy a painting from me, you can continue to follow my work through my website and  blog.  I have a solid record of selling to collectors for the past twenty-nine years.  Read what my happy patrons have to say about collecting my work.  PATRONS COMMENTS
When you collect art from local and national artists who have spent years developing their style, technique, creativity and expertise, you become the impetus that keeps the renaissance of talented contemporary artists alive. - Jill Saur

Summer Aspen Tree Paintings

aspen art, tree art, birch tree paintings
©1990-till present: Aspen Tree Paintings by Jill Saur, all rights reserved
Trees are my favorite subject to paint!  What's the allure?  Since the beginning of time, trees have been and continue to be used to teach us great lessons in life.  In the world of art, I've been inspired by Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh's renderings of trees.
However, the single painting that influenced my love for telling stories by the rendering of trees was one painting that I saw when I was a teenager.  In fact, I watched every soulful stroke being applied as one of her many trees came to life.  The artist was my mother.  Her lyrical painting glowed with light that emanated deep inside the forest, where a little cabin rested comfortably in the woods.  Her trees conveyed intense emotions.  I was captivated by this beautiful medium that could be a vehicle to express the human spirit!  Paint is my medium of expression and trees are most often my storytellers.
These two 36"x48" acrylic paintings on canvas are for sale.  These works are uplifting and full of life.  The story?  Well, it's in the painting! - Jill Saur    My Website

I rendered my 38”x48” acrylic aspen tree painting with brush and palette knife.  I closed my eyes and mused on one of my trips to Colorado, where the blue azure sky against the dancing white aspen trees ignite a flame of inspiration.  The title of this painting is, “Resilient Beauty”.  It hangs in the home of one of my patrons.  However, a limited edition hand-embellished giclee is available to purchase.  Email me, CLICK HERE.

This magnificent southern live oak tree (that you see here in my painting) used to hang over the Chattahoochee River and grace all who passed by.  Over the years, I've had the privilege of rendering my impression of this tree on canvas.  Last year, the parks department must have felt that the decay in the tree had taken its toll and they had it cut down.  I miss this tree.  I used to sit on the bench underneath its canopy and watch the river swiftly flow by.  I'm so glad I have the photos to refer to whenever I feel the urge to paint a memory.

This 30"x40" acrylic painting on canvas is titled, "The Hastening Tree".  The original hangs in my personal collection, but it's available to purchase in a limited edition giclee.  To contact me, please CLICK HERE.

”My husband and I commissioned PROFOUND JOY to be painted by Jill Saur after discovering her work online.  What a professional!  What a talent!  What a true dream to work with!!!!  We live in New England but thanks to phone calls, FaceTime, emails, texts…. it felt like we were local.  Jill put her heart and soul into our painting and it shows.  We are thrilled with PROFOUND JOY!  Not only do we love the piece we commissioned but we also fell in love with a piece that Jill painted from our painting's leftover colors.  It also looks gorgeous in our home.  Jill is full of passion and I am so happy that I took this "journey" with her.  Her work will forever mean a great deal to me.  Thank you, Jill!  -  Wendi Ayer - Medfield, Massachusetts

Wendi lives in Massachusetts.  She found me by doing an internet search.  After going through all the paintings on my website, she found a painting that she loved and saw that it had been sold.  She asked me if I could paint a similar one, only much larger.

After agreeing on a price, the first thing I did was a work-up of the general appearance of the larger painting I would do, and I included the chart of all the colors that I thought she would love.  I mailed this along with a copy of our agreed contract to Wendi so that she and her decorator could view it first-hand.  Because colors on a computer screen can vary, I wanted Wendi to see the colors in person.  I knew she was re-decorating the entire room and she wanted this painting to be the centerpiece.

I sent Wendi numerous updates as the painting progressed and she was able to tell me what she liked and where she wanted me to add more or less of the colors that she loved.
