Albert Bierstadt By Jill Saur

Albert Bierstadt Painting

Albert Bierstadt was born in Germany in 1830 and grew up in America.  He was a prolific artist who painted the West but who also joined a group of artists in New York, known as the Hudson River School.  These artists traveled up and down the Hudson River and painted breathtaking scenes with a luminous glow.  Bierstadt is often categorized as a Luminist Painter.

Of all his paintings, “Among the Sierra Nevada Mountains” is one of my favorites.  It measures 72”x120”.  This is an enormous work of art!

Albert Bierstadt was a master artist.  After studying his work, I would venture to that he was a student of “seeing” and of life itself.  He was dedicated, passionate, and he saw his work through to completion.  I would say that long ago, the student became the teacher.
