Painting Commissions Atlanta, GA

This morning I was reminiscing how positively wonderful my patrons are. My acrylic palette knife painting, "Rhapsody For You," was purchased to hang in a gorgeous home, over an exquisite fireplace.  My client showed the utmost respect and genuine interest in selecting her painting.  It was rewarding to see her so happy with my work!

This is me with the painting to show the scale of my larger work.  Funny thing, I'm working on an even larger painting right now, and I caught myself thinking, "This canvas just isn't big enough!"  My client wrote the following words describing her purchase:

"I love my painting, 'Rhapsody For You', that I purchased for my home; it has been a fabulous addition!  The painting is very colorful and emotional.  Thank you for this Jill!  Every time I look at the painting, I can feel the joy that you put into the artwork.  I especially like how the painting looks at night, when it seems to glow.  I have the painting above my fireplace, and smile every time I see it!" - Bridgette K. - Roswell GA

If you're looking for a painting, even an over-sized one, for that special place in your home or business, I paint commissions.  Please read about it on my website.  CLICK HERE

Martin Glaser, a legendary New York graphic designer, famous for creating the ‘I Love New York’ logo, recently spoke about something that’s dear to my heart.  He said, “If you can sustain your interest in what you’re doing, you’re an extremely fortunate person.  What you see very frequently in people’s professional lives, and perhaps in their emotional life as well, is that they lose interest in the third act.  You sort of get tired, and indifferent, and sometimes, defensive and you kind of lose your capacity for astonishment, and that’s a great loss, because the world is a very astonishing place.”

I guess you’d say I’m in the third act of my life.  I still find wonder in observing nature, seeing the cloud formations before a storm, and getting up early to watch the sun rise over the misty waters of the Chattahoochee River.

The overflow of being astonished with life is expressed through my art, my friendships, and the general way that I conduct my business.

I agree with Martin Glaser, the world is a very astonishing place! - Jill Saur

I rendered my 38”x48” acrylic aspen tree painting with brush and palette knife.  I closed my eyes and mused on one of my trips to Colorado, where the blue azure sky against the dancing white aspen trees ignite a flame of inspiration.  The title of this painting is, “Resilient Beauty”.  It hangs in the home of one of my patrons.  However, a limited edition hand-embellished giclee is available to purchase.  I also paint commissions.  Email me, CLICK HERE.

Atlanta Artist, Jill Saur, Inspired By Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh, Asylum In St. Remy Painting

I vividly remember the day that Van Gogh captured my attention, impacted my emotions and effected my artistic sensibilities.  It was about ten years ago at the High Museum in Atlanta, GA.  I was there to see an exhibit on the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters.  I walked around a corner and looked up to see Van Gogh’s self portrait that he rendered of a Gustave Dore painting, while he was in the asylum at Saint-Remy (see painting above).  This is certainly not one of  Van Gogh’s paintings that comes to most peoples minds, but it’s the one that made tears well up in my eyes.

Vincent Van Gogh, "Cafe Terrace At Night"

No artist has had the single most effect on my later years as an artist as Vincent Van Gogh has.  His knowledge and use of complimentary colors with their tints and tones was profound.  Van Gogh was an artistic genius.  Comparing the painting above with the painting below, one can see that Vincent dared to paint the complete spectrum of his emotions.  His transparent honesty and artistic genius amaze me to this day.

Although Van Gogh created over 2,000 works of art on canvas and paper, and sold only a handful of paintings in his entire life, he is one of the most recognized artists of all time!  If you want to broaden your insights into the life of an artist who was a true genius, study the life, works, and letters of  Vincent Van Gogh! - Jill Saur, Jill Saur Fine Art, LLC.

Original Art, Atlanta Ga

©1990-2015 Landscape Painting by Jill Saur, all rights reserved

The following words are from a book titled, "Windows Of The Soul" by Ken Gire.  "There is a story about the famous illustrator and painter Gustave Dore in which one of his students had just finished a painting of Jesus and handed it to him for his critique.  Dore studied it, his mind searching for the right words.  At last he handed it back to the student.  "If you loved Him more, "he said, "you would have painted Him better."

Those words struck a chord with me because I'm usually asking my students, "What do you want to work on next?"  I believe it's really important for artists to find what they're passionate about and paint that.  If you love the subject matter that you're working on, you're going to be ALL IN!  When you find that which you love and you capture it with your own camera, you're going to have all your senses engaged when you work on your painting.

I've been doing a study of a scene that I came upon while on vacation in Taos, New Mexico.  When I'm applying the paint, I can remember the brilliance of the sun, the highlights of the light on the quaking leaves and the sound and smells of the rushing water as it splashed upon the rocks in front of me.  When I'm painting and I'm ALL IN, invariably, I create my best works.

The painting above is sold but I’m working on several studies of the same scene right now.  If you’re interested in this scene or any of my other paintings, please email me.  EMAIL

I'm taking my "joy on canvas" tagline that represents my landscape paintings and I'm extending it to my animal portraits.  This is Sky, my rottweiler.  I spent hours on the drawing getting her "just right", and then I used a palette of hues that reflect the joy she brings into my life.  It's hard not to smile when my husband and I look at this joyful painting.

Oversized Original Art Atlanta by Jill Saur

I live in the beautiful state of Georgia in a suburb of Atlanta.  I often go down to the Chattahoochee River to photograph my favorite places that express the beauty of the Chattahoochee.  When I return to the studio, I select my favorites shots that I know I’ll want to do paintings of.  This 48”x48” painting is from the shoals down at Fords Landing. This is a  large painting.

One of the things I love about the homes in Atlanta is that they have lots of wall space.  Atlanta homes traditionally have large entry ways with tall ceilings that continue throughout the home.  My clients know they can count on me to come up with the right painting for their large wall space, especially when they want to make a statement.  Sometimes that statement is bold and colorful.  Sometimes the statement is calm and tranquil.

Whether you live in Georgia or any other of our beautiful states, and you’re looking for  large paintings to fill a room or a wall, please consider commissioning me to paint something just for you.  I work closely with my clients to ensure their satisfaction.  Please visit my website to see what my patrons have to say about commissioning a painting with me.  www.JillSaurFineArt.com
