The Love of Painting by Jill Saur

The Love Of Painting  By Jill Saur

I love picking up a blank white canvas.  I love contemplating the possibilities of what will emerge when I let myself go.

I love the musing of which brush I will select, or which brush will select me.  My brushes are like old friends with whom I am very familiar, yet I still find delight in what they are capable of doing.

I love picking up my palette knife. It is the instrument that will facilitate the mixing and dividing of hue, as well as the application of rich, dramatic texture that will bring my paintings to life.

I love opening the jars of paint, to be reminded of how their hues have deeply affected my life. The vivid blues speak of my first bicycle, and the shimmering waters of the ocean at dawn.  Painful or pleasing, color is deeply interwoven into every synapse of my being.

I love the way the first strokes of paint glide across the canvas, and I love the way I can feel the texture of that canvas through the vibrations in my brush.

I love stepping back to become an observer, and waiting until the painting reveals what it needs before I proceed.

I love when light and shadow and form begin to emerge from the canvas, and take on a life of their own.

I love what painting teaches me about life, and I love what life teaches me about painting.  I love that I can paint what I feel, and I especially love how I feel when I paint.

I love that the painting experience lightens pain, and gives wings of flight to fettered human limitations.

I love the way painting causes me to look to a source greater than myself for inspiration and guidance.  And, when I get to the end of a painting, I love that I know when I’ve made that final stroke that enables me to say, “It is finished”.

Though I cannot sing with my voice, my paintings are like a song that will resonate through the years, even after I’m gone.  - Jill Saur 2010

LionFish Painting

Creatures that are both breathtakingly beautiful and deadly at the same time intrigue me. The lionfish, with its long flamboyant pectoral fins and dazzling red-orange and white striped body, is one of those creatures. Second to the stingray, its sting is one of the most venomous fish in the ocean.

Although I've seen these fish in the wild, there’s a stunning exhibit of them in the Gatlinburg Aquarium, one of my favorite aquariums in the United States!

This 40"x30" oil painting on a wide border canvas, "Lion In Blue", is available to purchase by contacting me through my website.  www.JillSaurFineArt.com

Aglow with the light of the moon, I rendered these two 36"x48" aspen tree paintings.  It's no secret that I love aspens!  These two large paintings, "Circle of Quiet One" and "Circle of Quiet Two", have recently sold to a new collector.

My oversized paintings are usually purchased to be the focal point of a big room.  Also, a larger work of art can actually make a smaller room appear to be much bigger than it is.  To see more of my work, please visit my website. CLICK HERE

The mystique, the majesty, the utter magnificent experience of spending time on the mountain top amidst the aspen forest on Kebler Pass.  This is where my spirit soars and my artistic senses are inspired to continue to paint and tell the story of these "Giving Trees".  I took this photo this past fall and plan on returning this summer.

Yes, He arose. But, before he arose, he suffered a horrid crucifixion so that we would be able to be forgiven and live. I painted, "Jesus On The Cross" five years ago and upon finishing, I wept.  "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him". -  John 3:16, verses 16+17

My 8"x10" palette knife oil painting, "Aspen Breeze", has just the right amount of texture to lead your eye into the ambient aspen forest and spark a daydream or two.  Andre Gide once said, "Art is a collaboration between God and the artist, and the less the artist does the better".  It was from that collaboration that is painting was born.

Saturated in hues of sumptuous greens and golden yellows, my new 24"x18" acrylic aspen painting on wide-bordered canvas is titled, "Harmonious Encore".  This painting was inspired by my trip to Crested Butte, Colorado and a week up in the forests of Kebler Pass last October.  With brush, palette knife and carefully chosen hues,  I've expressed one solitary moment in time that made we want to say, "Encore".

Abstract Landscape Painting

tree art, atlanta art, modern art
©1990-2012 Trees In Art by Jill Saur, all rights reserved

Today, I reflected back on my 16"x20" acrylic abstract tree painting, "Fire and Water".  While painting this deeply emotional piece, I watched it emerge before my eyes.  I wasn't painting it, it was painting me.  Those special works of art usually turn out to be my best pieces.

I love what Paul Cezanne said, "Painting from nature is not copying the object; it is realizing one's sensations".  The experience of creating art is truly beautiful and mysterious at the same time. - Jill Saur  www.JillSaur.com

J.R. Tolkien said, "Not all those who wander are lost".  I love to wander through forests or hillsides. There are discoveries to be made and thoughts to be formed while beholding the beauty of Gods nature.

This 11"x14" acrylic painting is entitled, "Loves Journey".  I try to include a path in my landscapes.  Hopefully, it invites the viewer to dream about their life's journey and ponder all the possibilities that lay before them.  www.JillSaur.com

Pablo Picasso said, "The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off of our souls".  I love that quote!  My tag-line, "joy on canvas", is indicative of what my clients tell me they feel when they view my work.  That always makes me feel great because I pour my heart and soul into all my work.
My goal is for my work to emanate the joy and beauty of life.

This is one of my new small works of art.  This 8"x10" acrylic aspen tree painting is entitled, "Echoed Love".  It was inspired by my latest trip to Crested Butte, Colorado, where I spent an entire week photographing aspens and getting ideas for new paintings.  To purchase this painting, please contact me through my website.  I accept all major credit cards.  CLICK HERE

You won't find these trees growing in Atlanta, Ga., but you will find them in the homes of my patrons here in the south.  Aside from my collectors around the country, I'm thankful to my clients in the south who appreciate the stunning beauty of an aspen tree forest!

This grouping, "Aspen Rhapsody In Snow", is a collection of three individual acrylic paintings on a wide border canvas that hang side by side.  All together, they measure 72" wide by 30" tall.  If there's just a hint of light in the room, these paintings emanate a beautiful glow.  To inquire about this piece, please contact me through my website. Aspen tree and birch tree paintings are my specialty.  Although I paint other subject matter, which I love, I'm particularly known for my vibrant, emotive, and uplifting tree paintings.

This 36"x36" acrylic painting on wide bordered canvas is titled, "Harmonious Encore".  If there is just a hint of light in the room, this painting has an ethereal glow that emanates right off of the canvas.  I invite you to become a collector and experience the joy of owning artwork that uplifts your soul.

My aspen tree painting, "Passion At Play", has been shipped to a new collector in Florida via
Gallerie Matilda.  Thanks to my new collector and Gallerie Matilda.  I love it when my aspens find their way to the land of palm trees!
