My aspen tree painting, "Passion At Play", has been shipped to a new collector in Florida via
Gallerie Matilda.  Thanks to my new collector and Gallerie Matilda.  I love it when my aspens find their way to the land of palm trees!

Having grown up by the sea in Ft. Lauderdale, I have so many wonderful memories of that beautiful state!

"You Make Me Smile", is the title of my new 12"x9" acrylic aspen tree painting.  This painting has movement, it exudes joy, and of course there's always a story in my renderings.  Here, the forest exudes inexplicable happiness as the two trees in the foreground watch and participate in the dance of life.

Summer Aspen Tree Painting by Jill Saur

“A tree against the sky possesses the same interest, the same character, the same expression as the figure of a human. – George Rouault”. (French painter)

"Aspen Dance" is one of my new oil paintings (8"x8").  I rendered this piece using a palette knife.  I closed my eyes and mused about one of my trips to Colorado, where the blue azure sky against the dancing white aspen trees ignite a flame of inspiration.

This piece is for sale.  Email me: CLICK HERE.

Aspen

I rendered these two 36"x48" aspen tree paintings as if they were aglow by the light of the moon in the dark of the darkest night.  It's no secret that I love aspens!  These two large paintings, "Circle of Quiet One" and "Circle of Quiet Two", are hanging in Matilda's fine Art Gallerie in Historic Roswell, GA.

Subject Matter To Paint by Jill Saur

©2010 Sunflower by Jill Saur, all rights reserved

I've wanted to paint sunflowers for a long time now.  I either paint from live set-ups in my studio, my imagination, or subject matter that I've captured in my photography.  Yesterday, I devoted the entire day, right up until I taught my evening class, to capturing sunflowers.  I photographed all morning in a field, and then I spent the afternoon photographing a special setup that I created in my studio.

Outdoors, some of the sunflowers seemed to have personalities all their own.  There were the flamboyant ones, the shy ones, the ones that gazed down to the earth, and those special ones that gazed up to the heavens.  Indoors, I photographed against a black drop cloth and used a vase that complimented the sunny yellow flowers.  Yesterday, I worked a twelve-hour day.

I've written this to explain the long arduous process that many artists go through to get their subject matter to paint.  It's all too common these days to see paintings, by established artists, being copied and signed by other artists, then sold as originals.  Some people have the misconception that if they just change one or two things from the original, then it's their own.  Legally, if a judge can determine that the latter painting was derived from the original, it is a copyright violation, subject to heavy fines.

There's nothing more rewarding than knowing that your art is the result of your insight, creativity, and hard work.  Copy the Old Masters to learn, take your own photos, and if you see a photo you want to paint, get permission from the photographer.  Otherwise, don't use it.
Also, check out copyright free websites where you can use photos that people have donated for subject matter to paint.  A good one is Wet Canvas.  (www.wetcanvas.com)

Colorado Art by Jill Saur

Aspens in the fall are a site to behold.  This painting was inspired by a trip to Colorado with my wonderful sister.  Aspen trees are amongst the oldest living organisms on the planet and they can grow a new tree from their root ball.  I love the symbolism they carry and the beauty they hold for those walk amongst them.

This painting, "Autumn Green", is an original acrylic on canvas and measures 11"x14".  It has texture in the trees and foliage and has a lovely warm glow when the lights are dimmed.

This abandoned boat on the beach, "Rhapsodic Blues", was inspired by a vacation I took on a tiny island in the Florida Keys, where I came across this enticing scene.  This 14"x11" acrylic palette knife painting is rendered in the impressionistic style of Vincent Van Gogh, one of my favorite artists.

Trees on Canvas by Jill Saur

Dramatic, emotionally engaging, and filled with metaphor, this 20"x16" acrylic painting is titled, "Paso Doble".  It reflects the dance of life.  Sometimes the dance is soft and melodic, while at other times the dance is so dramatic, it requires the fortitude and strength of a matador.

"Paso Doble", along with a Certificate of Authenticity, can be acquired by contacting me through my website.  www.JillSaurFineArt.com.

Tree Art

Tree Art by Jill Saur

"If you reveal your secrets to the wind, you should not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees."
- Khalil Gibran

My 8"10".5" oil palette knife and brush painting, "Relinquished", is richly textured on the trees, revealing their "bone structure" against the value tones of winter. The title suggests that place in life where we relinquish ourselves and open up our hearts and minds to fresh inspiration and new possibilities.

I love aspens in winter. Their beautiful white trunks and dark branches mingle with the dark shadows cast upon the white snow, creating a profound beauty that is best experienced in silence.

Pear Still Life Painting

“Love Jo all your days, if you choose, but don't let it spoil you, for it's wicked to throw away so many good gifts because you can't have the one you want.” - Louisa May Alcott, Little Women

This 36"x48" over-sized painting, "Love Triangle", hangs in the home of a patron who had their eye on it for over a year before they purchased it. I've also reproduced this in a hand-embellished limited edition giclee on canvas, for clients who need a focal point for their room and who love the story this painting tells.

This painting is about unrequited love. The two pears on the left represent two people in a relationship, ignoring the third suitor on the right, who eventually has to turn away. Unrequited love is painful. But what we want, is not always what we need or what's best for us.

Trees In Art by Jill Saur

Aspen trees and birch trees on canvas are my favorite subject to paint!  These trees are brilliantly white and intoxicating in their beauty.

Estes Park, Bear Lake Painting by Jill Saur

Estes Park, Colorado, is one of America's treasured National Parks that I hope to return to someday.  If you ever get a chance to visit, be sure you spend a day up at Bear Lake!  We came away with some incredible photos for me to use for subject matter to paint.  This 11"x14" acrylic painting, "Autumn Inspiration" is inspired by one of my walks up at Bear Lake. The aspens were just beginning to change.  The brilliant hues of the quaking leaves, against the azure sky, captured my spirit.

Seascape by Jill Saur

This 16"x20" acrylic seascape painting on canvas is titled, "Renewed Solace". It was inspired by my memories of growing up near the ocean and heading down to the beach to watch the sunrise. I found renewed energy in the steady flow of the ocean waves breaking on the shore, the fresh sea air, and seeing the rays of the sun shine through, illuminating what had once been dark clouds.

Floral Still Life by Jill Saur

My 48"x48" painting, "Joyful Encounter" is featured in this months magazine,"Art Galleries and Artist's of the South", by Matilda's Art Gallery in Historic Roswell, Ga. I also had an unexpected surprise when I saw it on television this weekend on HGTV's, "Green Home Giveaway". They were filming the galleries in Historic Roswell and artworks represented by those galleries.

This painting emerged out of my imagination, which is both exciting and challenging at the same time. It might be hard to see in the photo, but the entire painting was executed with a palette knife and it's loaded with texture.

This painting is for sale at Matilda's Art Gallery in Roswell, but you can contact me through my website and I'll put you in touch with them. Thanks for viewing!  www.JillSaurFineArt.com
