My painting reflects the quiet beauty of the Nokomis North Jetty Beach, where calm, translucent waters meet weathered stone. Soft layers of blue and green create a gentle sense of depth and movement. This scene captures beachgoers enjoying refreshing moments of tranquility along the shoreline.  This is one of my favorite beaches in Florida.  My husband and I come here often to enjoy the beauty, watch the manatee and dolphins swim, and soak up the tranquility.

This 36"x36"x1.5"  seascape, "Into The Deep Blue," transports the viewer to the edge of the ocean just before a storm rolls in. Layers of moody, rain-laden clouds sweep across the horizon, their dramatic grays and violets contrasting beautifully with the luminous turquoise and deep blues of the water below.  "A stricken tree, a living thing so beautiful, so dignified, so admirable in its potential longevity, is, next to man, perhaps the most touching of wounded objects." Edna Ferber

This painting depicts two intertwined trees standing in an open landscape beneath a dramatic, cloud-filled sky. The trees are gnarled and expressive—thick, textured trunks twist upward, giving way to long, spindly branches that stretch outward in all directions like reaching arms. Their bark has rich earth tones—warm browns, golds, and hints of deep rust—adding vibrancy even in a stark setting.

The background consists of rolling, sienna brown earth and a turbulent sky filled with layered clouds in shades of gray, white, and hints of blue. The brushstrokes are bold and sweeping, especially in the sky, creating a sense of movement and approaching weather. I love Van Gogh.  He was a master artist, draftsman, and he was an expert on color.  Although he painted quickly, he applied his artistic knowledge with every inspired brushstroke.  My work has been deeply inspired by him.

I've titled my new painting above, "Joyful Encounter." I painted this textured palette knife painting using brilliant azure blues, effusive reds, and warm golds.  Although I rendered it in a spontaneous fashion, I applied my knowledge of color theory and the elements and principles and design.

My watercolor painting of an abandoned boat on Seabird Key captures a tranquil moment where nature and solitude converge. The boat, pulled up on shore, rests on grass and coral stones. The inside of the boat reflects the hues of the sky above—soft blues and muted greys. Mangroves and lush greenery frame the scene, offering a sense of seclusion and peace. It’s a snapshot of calm, where time seems to slow, and the gentle lapping of the water on shore speaks to a quiet adventure. 

Hidden away in the Florida Keys,  Seabird Key is a secluded island.  I've had the pleasure of staying there on a number of occasions and I've taken those memories with me through my life.  In fact, there's a quote in the guest book inside the house that someone wrote, "When blue days come, we will take out our memories and touch them with our hearts, and smile."  I love that!

Nine years ago, at the Jersey Shore, I was photographing the ocean waves. A child appeared in the foreground standing at the edge of the surf, arms outstretched, as if embracing the ocean itself.

This fleeting moment of an unknown child conveying the feeling of pure, unfiltered freedom, touches my heart. I wish I knew who he was. I'd love to share this photo with him. I'm making this post public because.... you never know.
