“In wisdom gathered over time I have found that every experience is a form of exploration.” – Ansel Adams

Leita Thompson Memorial Park is a one hundred acre park near our home just outside of Atlanta. In an open field near the entrance, you’ll find this stately old tree resting on a hill.  No doubt, this tree will soon find it's way onto my canvas.  www.jillsaur.com

This tree painting was inspired by a tree down at the beautiful Chattahoochee River in Roswell, GA.  I love to create texture in my art.  Working intuitively, using a variety of palette knives, I layer the paint and watch the scene come to life.  This 11"x14" acrylic palette knife painting is titled, "Delightful Encounter".

Seabird Key by Jill Saur

Florida Landscape Painting
©1990-2013 SeaBird Key by Jill Saur, all rights reserved
Seabird Key is an enthralling getaway just a short boat ride from Marathon Key.  A number of years ago, I had the privilege of spending a glorious week there with my sister.  On the eastern corner of the small island, there was an abandoned boat.  I was taken with the colors, age, and presence of this old craft.  Last year I came across my photos of this boat and knew I had to paint it.

Here is my finished work, painted in the Post-Impressionist style, reminiscent of Van Gogh.  This 11"x14" acrylic painting on canvas is titled, "Rhapsodic Blues".   Interested in this painting?  Send me an email and I'll send you a prompt reply. My still life paintings portray a story.  This 10"x10" acrylic pear painting on wide border canvas is titled, "Reunion".  It represents the coming together of a family that has been separated by the distance of time and space.

Painting Thoughts

Jill Saur

As a photographer, I photograph what I see. As an artist, I paint what I felt when capturing the moments on film. This juxtaposition is a beautiful dance. When I walk amidst the aspens, I’m moved to capture their beauty. But, capturing them is not enough. I must reach for the paint, brushes and canvas that will once again set them free. - Jill Saur  My website:  CLICK HERE

This 11"x14" acrylic palette knife painting is titled, "Eye Of The Beholder".   I rendered this aspen tree painting in exciting hues that dance within the texture.  My reference was an image I captured while on vacation in Crested Butte, Colorado.   We spent the entire week up on Kebler Pass where I was in heaven amongst these beautiful trees!

Aspen Tree Paintings

Trees in art, my favorite subject to paint!  What's the allure?  Since the beginning of time, in fact since Genesis, trees have been and continue to be used to teach us great lessons in life.  In art, I've been inspired by Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh's renderings of trees.
However, the single painting that influenced my love for telling stories by rendering trees was one painting that I saw when I was a teenager.  In fact, I watched every stroke being applied as the soulful rendering of this one tree came to life.  The artist was my mother.  It was sort of a fantasy painting with a light that emanated deep inside the forest, where a little cabin rested comfortably in the woods.  Fraught with emotion, her painting expressed  feelings that she could never express in words.  I was amazed and captivated by this beautiful medium in which to express oneself!  Paint is my vehicle of expression and trees are most often my storytellers.
These two 36"x48" acrylic paintings on canvas are for sale.  These works are uplifting and full of life.  The story?  Well, it's in the painting!    My Website

My 36"x48" acrylic painting on wide border canvas,  "Awake Before Winter", is serene, inviting, and certainly to be enjoyed.   This aspen tree paining has a glow that emanates during the light of day as well as the darker hours of the evening, beckoning the viewer to contemplate the depth of this work.

Trees In Art by Jill Saur

This is "my tree" at the Chattahoochee River. It's the subject of a number of my paintings. Its life is fraught with meaning to my artistic soul and its sheer will to survive inspires me.  This tree is largely hollow at the base with a wide hole where you can see the river through it. It has one or two roots running up the side, managing to sustain the life of this warrior.

My 30"x40" acrylic painting, "The Hastening Tree", remains in my personal collection.  Reproductions are available. www.JillSaur.com

Going The Extra Mile In Life And Business

aspen trees, atlanta artist
©1990-2013 Aspen Tree Painting by Jill Saur, all rights reserved

I love my clients and the owner of "Rhapsody For You" is no exception.  This is a 48"x36" acrylic painting on canvas that was purchased to be the focal point of a beautiful home here in Atlanta.  My client had a carpenter  build a panel over the built in mirror above her exquisite marble fireplace in order to hang my painting.

When she recently saw a new technique that I added to my work, I could see how much she loved and appreciated what I was doing.  Two weeks later and I've been to her home, picked up her painting, added my new technique and re-delivered it back to her home.  She didn't ask me to make the changes, I offered.  She compensated me for my work, but the greatest reward for me was to see her smile when I re-hung her painting.

My father taught me at an early age that "Going The Extra Mile" in life and business is what makes you stand out from the rest.  By the way, he didn't teach me that with his words, he taught me that with his actions.  - Jill Saur  www.JillSaurFineArt.com

Trees

TREES - Jill Saur

There are places I go to look at the trees
Their limbs are like arms reaching toward the sun
Sublimely they live and in silence they speak
Until they bow down from whence they’ve come

Tree Landscape by Jill Saur

Dramatic, emotionally engaging, and filled with metaphor, my 20"x16" acrylic painting, "Paso Doble", reflects the dance of life.  Oftentimes, the dance is soft and melodic and at other times, the dance is so dramatic that it requires the fortitude and strength of a matador.

This painting is available to purchase.  Send me an email and I'll send you a prompt reply.  EMAIL   Or, visit my website to see more of my work.  WEBSITE

The Love of Painting by Jill Saur

The Love Of Painting  By Jill Saur

Painting, butterflies on canvas
©1990-2012 Butterfly Painting by Jill Saur, all rights reserved
I love picking up a blank white canvas.  I love contemplating the possibilities of what will emerge when I let myself go.

I love the musing of which brush I will select, or which brush will select me.  My brushes are like old friends with whom I am very familiar, yet I still find delight in what they are capable of doing.

I love picking up my palette knife. It is the instrument that will facilitate the mixing and dividing of hue, as well as the application of rich, dramatic texture that will bring my paintings to life.

I love opening the jars of paint, to be reminded of how their hues have deeply affected my life. The vivid blues speak of my first bicycle, and the shimmering waters of the ocean at dawn.  Painful or pleasing, color is deeply interwoven into every synapse of my being.

I love the way the first strokes of paint glide across the canvas, and I love the way I can feel the texture of that canvas through the vibrations in my brush.

I love stepping back to become an observer, and waiting until the painting reveals what it needs before I proceed.

I love when light and shadow and form begin to emerge from the canvas, and take on a life of their own.

I love what painting teaches me about life, and I love what life teaches me about painting.  I love that I can paint what I feel, and I especially love how I feel when I paint.

I love that the painting experience lightens pain, and gives wings of flight to fettered human limitations.

I love the way painting causes me to look to a source greater than myself for inspiration and guidance.  And, when I get to the end of a painting, I love that I know when I’ve made that final stroke that enables me to say, “It is finished”.

Though I cannot sing with my voice, my paintings are like a song that will resonate through the years, even after I’m gone.  Jill Saur 2010

LionFish Painting

Creatures that are both breathtakingly beautiful and deadly at the same time intrigue me. The lionfish, with its long flamboyant pectoral fins and dazzling red-orange and white striped body, is one of those creatures. Second to the stingray, its sting is one of the most venomous fish in the ocean.

Although I've seen these fish in the wild, there’s a stunning exhibit of them in the Gatlinburg Aquarium, one of my favorite aquariums in the United States!

This 40"x30" oil painting on a wide border canvas, "Lion In Blue", is available to purchase by contacting me through my website.  www.JillSaurFineArt.com
